This non-binary and lesbian quintet blends the grimy\, electronic-driven subgenre of cumbia villera with drive n guitar rock for a uniquely dynamic fusion of traditional and cutting-edg e sounds.
The band describes its style as 1000% Tropi Punk – with a wild mixture of Afro-Cuban and Latin American Cumbia influences\, queern ess and punk spirit\, the musicians are reinterpreting Latin American hear tache and macho posturings\, bringing fun and politics together in their o wn captivating style.
The story goes back to the year 2007 where the se musicians got bored of the punk rock scene\, and decided to dosomething completely diferent: Cumbia. What started out as something just for fun\, led eventually to the formaton of Kumbia Queers. As NPR Latino says\, “ they’re no punchline. They’re for real." Many of the members of Kumbia Queers hail from the influential Argentinian ’90s punk trio She-Devils\ , who bring that combo's signature grungy\, DIY style to life with million -stream hits like "Mientes" and “Puesta”.
