documenta 14 distinguishes Kassel for 100 days –
documenta has been distinguishing Kassel for more than 60 years

Today’s (June 7th) press conference preceding documenta 14 will once again turn Kassel into a focal point of contemporary art and internationality, for exactly 100 days. The exhibition will officially be opened Saturday, 10th June 2017 in the presence of Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier.

"This year, we will experience a very special exhibition, the most recent one in a long series of outstanding art exhibitions. Once more, documenta 14 will prove that even after 60 years, this art institution is still true to its credo, which is to fascinate its viewers with the unexpected and the surprising,” Kassel’s Lord Mayor Bertram Hilgen commented.

This was first accomplished in 1955, by documenta-founder Arnold Bode, in Kassel. This year, in 2017, the world art exhibition takes place in two cities, Kassel and Athens, using this axis as a foundation for broaching important global issues. "Learning from Athens,” this is how Artistic Director Adam Szymczyk titled his concept.

"By extending documenta 14 to include Athens as a second exhibition venue documenta 14 and its dedicated staff, the management of documenta und Museum Fridericianum gGmbH have had to face an immeasurable challenge – and they have successfully faced and accomplished this task,” Hilgen expressed his esteem for the project and those who have contributed to its accomplishment.
