A trip through Kassel Vorlesen

Herkules

By Basar Arslan und Viola Teubert

Murat and Martina live in Kassel which is situated in the middle of Germany and also in the middle of Europe. With its 200,000 inhabitants Kassel is a small but very cosy city.

Today Murat and Martina are very excited because something special will happen: two friends of theirs, Beate from Poland and Jakob from Israel, are on a trip through Europe and their first stop is Kassel.

After Murat and Martina picked up their friends at Calden airport, the four friends take a long walk through the famous Bergpark Wilhelmshöhe. Everybody is fascinated at the magnificent landscape. After climbing up the numerous stairs to the statue of Hercules, they enjoy the great view of the whole city.

Murat and Martina want their friends to get an impression of the cultural side of Kassel, therefore they visit some of the very interesting museums.

Wilhelmshöhe Palace, where some of the most famous paintings by Rembrand are to be found, a museum dedicated to the Grimm Brothers, who lived in Kassel for about 30 years and Fridericianum Palace, where works of modern art are exhibited, are the places which attract all of them.

Their last stop is Documenta, the world´s most famous exhibition of modern art, which takes place in Kassel every five years.

Beate and Jakob are tired and need a short break. The beautiful Karlsaue, a very neat park, is near the city centre and they all lie down in the grass and enjoy the nice weather.

At the end of the day, the two visitors are convinced that Kassel offers a lot to its people and also its visitors. People from all over the world live together in Kassel and characterize the Hessian city.
