The City Archives Kassel is a public institution for all interested citizens. As a "memory" of the city it serves to secure and provide documents that must be retained permanently for legal or historical reasons.

The City Archives decides which documents are taken to the archive, so that later generations can get a picture of Kassel. In addition, the City Archives also takes care of the security and preservation of documents from private hands (estates of persons and families, corporate records, documents of associations, political parties and associations) to make them accessible for local historical research. The City Archives Kassel is a cultural institution that provides the groundwork for the historical identity of the city. It always searchs for relics, such as photos, old newspapers, old advertising mediums, brochures...
