Ramat Gan/Israel Competition – "Youth describes lifes in its cities"
I live in Kassel. Kassel is situated on the river Fulda in the north of Hesse, in the centre of Germany. When people hear the name "Kassel", they often think at first of the city’s symbol, the "Hercules", which is placed in the biggest mountain park in Europe. In this park the waterworks with a great fountain are shown two times a week. In general, Kassel has got many big parks and is a very "green" city. Kassel has got about 200 000 habitants, so it is not too big. The town has a good traffic system with buses, tramways and two big train stations which you can use every day and in the direction of every city you want to go to, so it is not a problem to visit other metropolis like Frankfurt, Hanover or Hamburg. Unfortunately, our town does not have an airline airport at the moment, but the town wants to dismantle our private airport in Kassel-Calden soon.
Every five years a special art exhibition is presented Kassel: the documenta . During this exhibition many people from all over the world visit Kassel because it is famous and open to the public. All in all, we have got many cultural sights. For example the Astronomic Museum (Planetarium), the Museum of the Brothers Grimm, the Lions’ Castle (Löwenburg), the Palace of Wilhelmshöhe (Schloss Wilhelmshöhe), the Botanic Garden or the Wallpaper Museum. In Kassel everybody can find what he is interested in. Musicals, concerts, theatre, cabaret and great shows are given in our city hall, theatre and various small cultural centres. For people who like wellness and sports Kassel offers many possibilities. An extraordinary one are the thermal baths (Therme) with salted water from a thermal spring, a sauna, steam baths, whirlpools and big swimming-pools. Furthermore, there are many normal swimming-pools, an ice-skating centre, tennis courts, football, basketball and many other fields, many paths for inline skating, jogging or biking or many fitness centres. In the evenings you can go to a disco like "A7", "Spot" or "Nachthallen" or to one of the many pubs and cafés. In winter we have got a big Christmas fair. In spring and autumn there is the trade fair with roller coasters and fireworks. The inhabitants of Kassel are friendly and open-minded and our parliament always tries to improve our image. That’s why I would recommend you to visit Kassel. (397 words)
